Enhancements of ‘DirectAthletics’ website: Sean Laughlin noted that the use of the website ran very well last year, and enhancements will make it even easier to post your roster for the coming CC and T&F Seasons. Additional ‘hard-copies’ of new instructions was passed out.
Nor-Cal Standards: Joe Mangan passed out proposed
Nor-Cal standards prepared by Curtiss Smith, and will be considered for
approval at the Nor-Cal Reps. meeting in October. (contact your conference
rep. for a copy)
Discussion on number of teams qualifying to the state CC Championships: Gary Dilley read the COA guidelines for post-season competition. Dilley than asked our Association to review the qualifying process to our CC and T&F regional and state finals and ask ourselves if you were in compliance. There was long discussion on the low levels of Nor-Cal women’s teams in the regional meet, allowing most teams to qualify.
Though there is a realization that in the Nor-Cal men’s competition and both the So-Cal men’s and Women’s competition there is no concern, Dilley stated how he ‘could not professionally justify’ all regional teams qualifying to the state finals as is the case with the Nor-Cal women. The following Nor-Cal representatives were elected to meet with reps from So-Cal to discuss the qualifying format and report back to the conferences: Gary Bluth, Dave Bronzan, Joe Mangan, and Ron Whitey. The first meeting was held after the general 5CTCA meeting.
Inclusion of the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase as a scoring
event in the state meet for the upcoming 2002 season: Based on the 17-1 advisory vote
of the Conference Reps. the evening before, there was discussion if indeed the
general body adopted the women’s steeple as a scoring event that we should
pursue two options: 1) make the event a 2000m distance the first year to allow
for development, or 2) ask meet directors of Nor-Cal rotational and
invitationals to run the 2000m Women’s steeplechase distance during the season
before the conference meets to allow women to develop. In the General Session meeting is was voted
to include the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase event into the state meet as a
scoring event whilst dropping the women’s 3000m run, so option two will be
forwarded.
Replacement of the Nor-Cal Rules Chairperson: Jean Snuggs
has been promoted to Area Dean at ARC and will no longer able to serve as Rules
Chair, as least for the immediate future.
There was discussion that we should discuss possible nominations during
our conference meetings and elect a replacement at the Nor-Cal Conference Reps.
meeting on 2 October.
Nor-Cal Rotational Meets: The following dates have been forwarded for
rotational meets:
Meet one: Fri/Sat 22/23 Feb. Meet Two: Fri/Sat 1/2 March
Meet Three: As the
invitational phase of the season has begun, it was determined that rather than
assign schools to meets and sites, each conference should pole their
conferences and tell Ron Richardson who is handling assignments who would want
a meet between 13-23 March, and Ron would post schools looking for meets along
with the first two rotational assignments.
Each college is reminded
once assigned to a meet, it is your responsibility to honor your assignment!
The payment of meet
administration fees will be further discussed at the Nor-Cal Reps meeting.
Nor-Cal Conference Reps. meeting: Tuesday, 2 October at American River College. Site and time T.B.A.
Please be sure you notify
our conference reps. at your conference meeting with any concerns you want
addressed at this important organizational meeting.
